I Wonder If Douglas Adams Ever Saw This Cover?

Wait...Hollywood was the City Of Death?

It's a Doctor Who joke, people.

Each and every one has a basecoat with "THIS IS A FAKE" in magic marker!

I'm a new Who fan...we haven't seen much...can you provide some insight as to the joke?

This spoils the episode City Of Death, which is universally acclaimed as one of the best, so I heartily recommend you watch it first, and then come back I read my next comment.

MOCK--In City Of Death, our bad guy uses time travel of a sort to go back and force Leonardo to paint him multiple copies of the Mona Lisa. Then, in present day, he can steal the "real" one from the Louvre, and sell that one and all of the copies individually to different collectors--they won't want to tell anyone they have the stolen masterpiece, so he can get away with multiple sales. And since they're all painted by Leonardo, they'll all be "authentic" and pass any inspection.
